Tri-M

Tri-M is a music honor society that has a junior chapter for 7th and 8th grade. J was inducted into the honor society last night. So we went to the ceremony and there were (I kid you not) 28 kids there. Of those 28 about 14 were second year members being congratulated and 14 were new inductees.
Now, here is my question...the invitation said "Semi-formal". To me that means that the boy needs to wear a tie, no jeans etc...so Rich and I dressed as follows:

Doesn't he look good??

We were the ONLY parents dressed that nice! I was floored. Half the kids were dressed in their school clothes. Most of the parents had on jeans and sweatshirts. Now the invitations were these nice engraved almost wedding response looking things. Don't ya think that meant it was supposed to be a little fancier?? Ok, but whatever, the whole thing lasted less then 20 minutes. We were home within the hour...

J has on the red tie.

So that was our night, I am off to blog read (finally catch-up) then do some sewing and cleaning. I am giving the house its spring cleaning so it will be done!

I would have thought it meant dressing up a bit too! Love the kid with his shirt tail hanging out! LOL

I agree...it did mean dressy!! It's amazing what kids (and parents) dress like anymore...jeans are the norm, sad!

Hi Sara,
I totally agree with you! I really hate how causal things have become; don't even get me started on what people are wearing to weddings! You all looked lovely and congratulations to your J.

Congratulations, J. Yes, you would think it meant more dressy, but I wouldn't be surprised to see some in PJ's. I have seen kids around here go out in PJ's. Hard for me to believe. Times have changed.

I am glad that you showed the respect to the program by not wearing jeans. The boundaries are so muddy these days. When our kids were in school we always tried to make the effort too.

Hi Sara,
I'm with you on this one. I think all three of you look great. Tell your son we said congratulations!! I finally finished a little something for you from that post I had a while back. I mailed it today, so keep an eye on your mailbox.
Have a great night,
~Karen~

Yes, I agree...people should have dressed nice for the occasion. Even dockers and a polo for guys is better than jeans. You 2, by the way, look fabulous!

Congrats to J on his accomplishment!

Sara, you and your honey both look terrific, and I totally agree with everyone else that you were dressed PERFECTLY for the occasion. It seems to me that the (classy) invitation made a point of mentioning the preferred dress for a reason!

I agree with the rest. It was a special occasion and should have been dressed for as such. You guys look great. Congrats to your son.

I think the casual dressing thing is a sign of the times, unfortunately. The parents set an example for the children and if they showed up in jeans and a sweatshirt, what does that say to the children? I think you and your husband showed a lot of class and my hat goes off to you. Your son should be proud, cuse he looked swell too!

Boy - that's something that annoys me. Just think though - you taught your child a a good lesson.
Love the ice photos down below - but I'm happy we don't have ice sculpture here - that would mean a lot colder than I'm able to stand!
