Christmas is coming!

Christmas will be here in 5 days, and T turns the big 13! I think he is pretty excited about it. I know he is looking forward to his birthday party on New Years Eve. We finally got our tree and put it up. R did a great job of picking one out this year, and the smell of it permeates the entire house! Here is T decorating the tree:

We also made some cookies last week, and J seemed to think he could shoot me with the cookie press because I was taking his picture:
My shopping is done and all that I have to do is wrap gifts. Hopefully that will be done by Saturday morning since we are going to Quaker City on Saturday. Then Christmas with my family is on Sunday evening. I do have to work Christmas Eve, which stinks, but it should be slow and quiet. Maybe I can come home early.

After Christmas, back to quilting. I am looking for a good price on jelly rolls to make some quilts with. I also want to finish my block of the month quilts and some other projects.

I started Pomegranate Soup by Marsha Mehran tonight after I finished the Emperors Children by Claire Messud last night. The Emperors Childrens just didn't do much for me. It was not a great book in my opinion. I think she could have said what she did in about half the pages.

Sarah's Key

Obviously one thing that attracted me to this book is the name - mine. :) But it was honestly a really good read. I rated it a 4 to 4.5. The story is actually told in two parts: Sarah's and Julia Jarmonds. Julis is an American journalist writing for a Paris-based American magazine when she is asked to write an article about the day of the Vel' d'Hiv' roundup in July of 1942. Through her investigation into this day she comes to realize how little she knows about it and discovers a connection between her husband's family and Sarah. This is the first book I have read by Tatian aDe Rosnay and I enjoyed it. It is a quick, easy read, and while fiction, the elements regarding the roundup (after having done some searching) are true.

On to other things. Right now, its snow/freezing rain. Nice night to stay inside with a good book. Currently I am reading The Emperor's Children. Only about 100 pages into it, but its okay. We shall see if it gets better. I did finish making pillowcases for the boys body pillows, have to get those finished up tomorrow. Also will be making more cookies since the ones Joe and I made on Thursday are gone. And I am FINISHED Christmas shopping. Finished up today with a quick trip to the music store for both boys. Ok, well Ashley is not done, but she can wait till she comes home next month.

As for my quilting projects, would really like to get Mary's quilt finished, and then one of my MANY other projects. I would also like to pick up some jelly rolls for some strip patterns that I would like to do. Up next is going to be to finish "Piecing the Trail To Kansas". Its only about 4 years old, time to finish it!

First Post

This is my first post to my blog. My blog is going to mostly be about books I have read or am reading and quilts, ones I am making and like. There may also be items about life in general, and my horses. This is just a test post.
