Booking Through Thursday

It’s a week or two later than you’d expect, and it may be almost a trite question, but … what were your favorite books from 2008?

Ok, this year was not nearly as good for me reading wise as it was last year. I read 130 books last year, this year only 93. Looking back on my list I don't believe I had any real standouts! I don't think I rated a single book a 5 which is weird because there are several that really stand out. Some of my favorites from this year are:

1. It's All About Him by Denise Jackson
2. Kabul Beauty School by Deborah Rodriguez
3. Life of Pi by Yann Martel
4. The Necklace by Cheryl Jarvis
5. Fearless Fourteen by Janet Evanovich
6. The Twilight Series by Stephanie Meyer

Notice that of those listed above 3 are Non-fiction. It was a good year for Non-fiction, which is not normally what I tend to gravitate toward. But I am looking forward to reading more NF in the New Year. I did read the Heretic's Daughter about the Salem Witch Trials and would definately like to read some NF on that. I will have to see what I can find!

Overall, a decent reading year (since I didn't really read for almost 2 months!) and hopefully a better one this year!

What have you been reading?

LOL, I think I haven't finished my best 2008 book yet :-)

I started to read "Half of a Yellow Sun" by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie just after Christmas, and even though I'm only half way through it yet, I think this will most likely be one of the best book I've read during the past few years!

I'm really impressed with the number of books you've managed to read, even if it wasn't as many as the year before. 93 is a LOT!

I read 9 books over my recent Christmas break, which is way more than normal. I devoured the entire Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris. A true guilty pleasure! My husband and I had watched the HBO series "True Blood" which was based on the first book. There's just nothing like Vampires in Louisiana (where my husband is from) to keep you turning the pages.

I read Life of Pi a few years ago and really enjoyed it, though for such a good book, it sure started slowly. I read it with a friend and we couldn't agree on whether his experience was all a fantasy or not. I held out for "there was too really a tiger!" for a long time. What do you think?

I also liked Life of Pi! It's a great listen too..on CD. With a real India accent.

I'm currently reading
Julie and Julia: My Year of Cooking Dangerously...by Julie Powell. entertaining so far.

*Only* 93 books read this year?! I probably read (ahem) four books. I don't know why I don't read more because I love books. That Kabul Beauty School one sounds interesting to me, too, since I went to beauty school after high school. Thanks for reminding me that I should read more.
