Booking Through Thursday

What, if any, memorable or special book have you ever gotten as a present? Birthday or otherwise. What made it so notable? The person who gave it? The book itself? The “gift aura?”

I haven't gotten a book as a present in a while. The last books I got as a present were the Civil War Diaries and Civil War Love Letters Quilt Books. These were given to me by my sons' for Mother's Day. I do love to get books as presents, not only because it is a book, but also because the person who gives it is usually someone who knows me well and it is very special. It just makes the book more special.

On to non-btt news. Nothing, really, nothing. I have been working 5a to 3p and then I come home, do a few things, have dinner and go to bed. Sounds pretty exciting doesn't it? Tomorrow I am off and hopefully after my errands I will get a few things made/quilted. 4 10's is great, but I am thinking most of my quilting etc is going to be done on the days I don't work. I also go back to nights for two weeks so I am going to try to stay up the nights as much as possible.

I do like the job though. I am learning alot and all my fears have pretty much vanished. I am pretty sure that it won't be a huge issue to me to get on the radio. Ok, the first few times 911 rings I will probably be extremely nervous, but so far everything is going great!

So off to dinner (I had to take a nap, I was pretty tired today!) and then hopefully I can get blogs read, some squares made for my tree skirt and start getting my mom's finished up.

my mom gave me a book called "if you're not from the prairie". it's actually a children's book, but it talks all about the wonderful things that are special about living on the prairie. it's special because it's from her and because i love that wide open beautiful prairie.

I recieved a new Bible on Mother's day in church for being the youngest Mom in the congregation that day, it was 1975..... It has always been my treasure, and I only study from that one!!! Now i'm one of the oldest Mom's, but I love to remember when I was "the baby" with the baby...tee hee

Several books given to me as gifts in my childhood first came to mind (the Walter Farley horse books, Tenggren's Cowboys & Indians), but then Jacquie jogged my memory on one my mom gave me before she died. It's MOTHERS AND DAUGHTERS by Carol Saline and Sharon J. Wohlmuth (they also wrote SISTERS). My mom wrote a beautiful, loving inscription in it, and it's such a treasure to me now. So glad your job is panning out, Sara!! --Mary

I'm not very religious but when my Grandma passed away a few years ago I so wanted, and received her bible. When she and my grandfather came to Canada from Holland they had no money and did not speak english. She has notes written beautifully all over the bible regarding passages and what they mean to her as well as notes of when she started and finished reading each time. Any time I miss her I always take it out and look at it. She taught me how to cross stitch and I would not be crafty person I am if it wasn't for her.

hi sara. i'm so happy to hear about your new job. it sounds like you will be an old pro at it before you know it. best of luck to you. as far as receiving a book as a gift, my son gave me "my sister's keeper" as a Christmas gift a few years back. i think it's the only book i've received as a gift and from him made it even more special. he knows how much i love a good book if no one else here does. lol. it was a great read and i shared it with everyone i knew who wanted to read it. sadly, the last girl who got it loaned it out and it was never returned. for that reason i will never loan another book. i've lost a priceless gift and won't take that chance again.

I have three and each were given to me by my best friend, Ramah. They are "A Circle of Quiet" by Madeleine L'Engle, "The Prophet" by Kahlil Gibran and lastly "New and Selected Poems" by Mary Oliver. Three found me at different points in my life and all still move me as much today as the first time I read them.

Also, Sara : ) Make sure you get the book I left you at OUR library : ) I couldn't make it to book club but I left it for you and the others for Kitty.
Hope to see you in the winter!
