What is a WIP?

We all know that WIP stands for Work In Progress, but my question for all you out there in blogland today is what makes a WIP a WIP?

Is it tops that needs backs...

Or is it ones that needs the top/blocks completed....

Or is it ones that you have the material for and just need to start...

Or is it something someone else started and gave you....

What is a WIP to you?

Oh, definetly all of the above. I was having these same thoughts today. I was trying to organize my WIP's in some sort of order, that was a challenge. I guess the bottom line is they just all need finishing. For some reason I keep starting new projects!LOL!

My definition of a WIP, is something that is sitting on my sewing table, waiting on me to pick it up.

Like a pile of triangles waiting to be made into HSTs. Or string blocks, waiting to be sewn into a top. Or Indian Hatchet blocks that are cut out but waiting to be sewn.

If everything I need to do the next step is sitting on my sewing table, then it's a WIP. If it's been put in a container and set aside, it's UFO.

Tops are just tops. I like tops, evidently, because I have so many. They are "in queue" and have to wait their turn. I have certain quilts that should be finished first.

But this is just my opinion.... with that and $3.50 you can get a tall latte at Starbucks! LOL

As far as I'm concerned a WIP is...if it's cut, partially sewn, looked at wishfully in any form more than 2 times with or an idea in my head that has popped up more than 2 times!

So, that covers about everything in my crafty room...and that's why I can't throw away ANYTHING! Because all of it is part of some WIP project! LOL

Hi Sara, I know, I've been missing alot lately from blogland, but here I am *VBS* I was so excited to see you are doing the One project a month also. Seems there is definitely a need out there.
So...what is a WIP to me?? All the things you mentioned except the uncut piles of fabric intended for a "certain special quilt". If I haven't cut and stitched some/part/most/all of it, it's not "a work" to me. And that's good because I have about a bijillion that are WIPs and WISPs...LOL. I'm going to try and finish more than one a month since the 15 I did during the New Years Eve Challenge barely made a dent.
Happy to hear you'll have some home time soon. Hugs, Finn

A wip is something that has been started, in other words some fabric has been chosen and cut and some sewing has happened. It stays a wip until the binding is done and the label attached!

To me, a WIP is anything that I have started that is not finished. By started I mean that I have put scissor to fabric and everything that comes after.
I consider a WIP finished when it is completely done, extra supplies put away and it has gone to its new home (if it is not staying w/ me).
P.S. I have always wanted a horse!!!

Basically all of the above. Although if it isn't started yet then it's a work waiting to be a WIP!

I would LOVE to have a quilt top that is COMPLETELY done, but I guess technically, that is a WIP.
